Mold Remediation
MOLD
THE FOUR LETTER WORD NO ONE WANTS TO HEAR!
WHAT’S IN YOUR ATTIC?
Attics are one of the most common areas for mold growth in your home.
Here in Michigan many families are living with attic mold without even knowing it. Left untreated, attic mold can cause health issues including headaches, chronic fatigue, breathing disorders, even cancer!
Some of the main causes of attic mold are:
Improper Venting of Bath Fans or Kitchen fans
Inadequate Attic Ventilation
No vapor barrier/ Lack of Air Sealing, allowing humid air to seep from your home into the attics.
Excessive moisture in crawl spaces and leaky basements
Furnace humidifier set too high
Roof leaks
Not all molds are created equal:
There are many different mold species, each of which has a unique look. Most molds have visible spores that can appear as fine, white dust, making them easier to identify. However, the color of the mold can vary depending on the species and where it grows.
Attics tend to have the perfect conditions for mold growth:
Heat
Humidity
Abundant Food Source: Wood sheathing in attics provides an excellent food source for mold.
Lack of airflow: Attics often have poor ventilation, which can trap moisture-laden air.
Lack of awareness: Homeowners often don't visit their attics, allowing mold to grow undisturbed for years.
Common signs and precursors of attic mold:
Frost buildup on roof sheathing
Rust stains surrounding nails on roof decking
Mildew smell in your home or attic
Roof leaks
Dark or white stains on roof decking or joists
Detailed process of Mold Remediation:
1. Identify the mold
2. Identify the cause
3. Come up with a plan
Step 1: Correct the underlying cause
Step 2: Whenever possible, our experts use negative pressure to prevent cross contamination from the attic into the home.
Step 3: When necessary, mold-infested materials will be safely removed and disposed of to prevent further spread of mold.
Step 4: Our professional mold remediators follow industry guidelines when removing attic mold. Our mold remediation products kill the mold spores on contact, penetrate the decking, and allow the surfaces to dry mold free and looking like new. If the mold is particularly invasive, physical removal of mold from surfaces using brushes, scrubbers, or other cleaning tools will be utilized.
Step 5: After the mold is removed an antifungal is either direct sprayed or fogged. This covers the attic with a powerful antifungal sealer that will kill any residual spores and prevent the mold from returning, restoring your attic and home to a healthy clean environment.
Fixing the underlying cause and creating a plan of prevention is very important, because the mold will come back!!!
